Photo StationĀ
During my tenure as a product designer at Tentamus Innovation Hub, I was entrusted with a compelling project: designing a cutting-edge photo station aimed at simplifying product imaging processes. This initiative emerged as a response to a critical need within the food product assessment service. The objective was to capture images of products from six different sides to catalog them in the database for evaluation. Additionally, manually entering product data like names and ingredients proved time-consuming and labor-intensive.
To revolutionize this workflow, the photo station project was conceived. Its overarching goal was to harness the power of automation and AI to expedite the process. The envisioned software would utilize AI to recognize and extract package data, automating data entry and storage in the database. This marked a significant shift in approach, replacing manual input with advanced technology.
Upon deploying the software, the photo station came to life. When a product package is placed within the station, images are captured from all six sides. Real-time images are displayed on-screen, accompanied by a distinctive rectangular box outlining text. Hovering the mouse over this box reveals the English translation, providing immediate comprehension of product details in various languages. An intuitive drag-and-drop feature empowers operators to effortlessly fill information forms by incorporating text directly from the images.
However, the project's success hinged upon the synergy of software and hardware. Lighting emerged as a pivotal challenge, demanding strategic positioning within the station to prevent reflections that could hinder AI accuracy. The photo station's dimensions were carefully calculated to accommodate camera views while ensuring that even the largest packages were fully visible.
Throughout the prototyping phase, three iterations of the photo station were meticulously developed. This phase was crucial for addressing any shortcomings and optimizing the station's dimensions for seamless performance.
Working on this project has been a transformative experience for me. Being part of a project that merges cutting-edge software development, AI integration, and hardware optimization has deepened my understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration. As the photo station took shape, I witnessed firsthand how innovative solutions can revolutionize traditional processes, saving time and resources while enhancing efficiency.
